As far as I'm aware there are no shims involved when fitting a hardtop

In the instructions they show some shims/spacers being put each side at the back when fitting the hard top

Not shims. I think you might mean the fitting gauges, They are an odd shaped piece of plastic that supposedly help with setting the clearance of the roof from the car. I have some you can borrow if you need them.

Unless he has the Wiseman hardtop which does require shims. I'm guessing it is the normal HT?

The gauges are a weird shape that is not easily reproduced, so no point in trying to measure them. They are designed to sit on the edge of the bodywork whilst you position the hard top.

Peter, let me find them again and I can either post them out or you can come and get them. I also have a hook spanner for tightening the clamps on the hardtop.

rambo, you can borrow them when Peter has finished with them.

Cheers R.

PS My hardtop went on yesterday, so if you want to see how it is fitted, let me know.

Hi Robert T or Peter2b or anyone else just fitted their hard top - have just fitted mine which seems ok - front is secured & rear handles have locked back but have noticed looking back under the rear window trim the 2 rubber blocks are sitting on the pins which secure the soft top at windscreen. This doesn't seem to be engineeringly sound & I was just wondering could someone nip out & see where their pins go in relation to these blocks? (you may need a torch)
Thanks for any help.

Yes, that is correct, Parki. That is exactly where the rubber stops sit on my car as well.

Peter - you have PM.

ok thanks for that - guess the hard top was an afterthought - next time the top is off, i may look to drill a well/hole for pins to go in to.

I think that the intention is it stops the softtop from moving around and rattling when the hardtop is on. If you were to make an indentation in the stops it is likely to also allow the hardtop to move about. I replaced the stops on mine a few years back because the rubber had gone hard and was causing the hardtop to make more noise than it should on bumpy roads.
