No throttle response

Post by Agammemnon »

A long story but I got some water ingress into the car.

Now the accelerator has no effect; car idles fine but won't rev.

Where would be the best place for me to go fault-finding presuming the car is now dried out?

I’m not positive but is your accelerator controlled by a potentiometer?
Gazza

"Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car, oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you"

This is the pedal on mine (2001), it could be the potentiometer

It could also be a Throttle Position Switch which is on the top front of the engine.

‘Water ingress’ where ?

Some water got in the boot, also the front wings were stripped off & some electrical connectors exposed when it suddenly rained & I didn't get the cover on quickly enough

Looking at your profile and car, if you still refer to a 2.2i 2002 model then you certainly have a fly-by-wire throttle. On the don't look for zebras principle (when you hear hoofbeats think of horses, not zebras) I would put money on a goosed throttle pedal pot. This RealOEM page shows you where to look http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpar ... Id=35_0165

Edited to add, sorry Gazza, I have only just followed your link... :?

Get the error codes read, to see if there are any related to the problem.
