Quick tip.
I disconnected the battery to do a small maintenance job which also required removal of the steering airbag pod.
When I had completed the task, I reconnected everything and was a little alarmed to find my fuel gauge not working, and the reserve warning light was on.
I did the "stupid thing" which was to disconnect the battery, wait 2 minutes and reconnect it. I say stupid, because it did nothing to change the fault.
I referred to Robert T's thread in the knowledge base which describes the 2 variations of using the cluster self test. My vehicle uses the E46 variation, and the very last test - # 21 is a "Reset OBC" function. I went to that, and pipped the trip button when it said "reset"... all the gauges assumed their correct positions including the fuel gauge.
Problem sorted....... Thanks Robert.
