Mileometer illumination

Post by stephenwj »

I’ve got a Z3 1.9 model year 1999 and the mileometer illumination has stopped working you can see the mileage with a torch, I was wondering is there a bulb that can be replaced and if so has the cluster got to be removed to replace.

There are two bulbs for that part of the cluster. One illuminates the Service Indicator, the other the mileage display. You need to remove the cluster to get at the back of it to replace the bulbs. There is an article in the knowledgebase that describes how to do that. There are three bulb sizes in the cluster, so you need the right one. You can definitely get them from BMW, but I believe there are also other suppliers.

These links might help, it's not that difficult to do, not like changing heater bulbs.
The bulbs have an integral holder and mine cost around a fiver from BMW a few years back.
