Looking to buy a Z3 2.2 Sport.

Post by ChrisSutton »

Hi guys, I'm 23 years old and looking to buy a Z3. I did want a Z4 on PCP but Directline won't insure me on one so I'm going to hopefully get my hands on a Z3 2.2 Sport instead. I looking at a 02/52 Reg. When did the face lift occur and what did it involve? Any help would be appreciated. Plus if anyone is looking to sell, please get in touch!

Cheers guys - looking forward to your replies!

2.2 02/52 is one of the last registered, so it's definitely facelifted (back end mostly which happened in 99).

2.2's are cracking cars, has longer service (have we been here before anyone?), brilliant 6 cylinder burble (John M's always sounded good to me) and plenty quick.

When you're looking, check tyres and look for one with a front strut brace (use a search to find out why).

Why are you buyign now BTW?

Happy hunting.

Try looking on the Pistonheads web site on the classified link, scroll down to the BMW section then onto the Z3 link, theres a 2.2 on there on a 02 plate for 15,800. Looks quite good aswell.

2.2 were made from 2001 to 2002 and facelift happened in 1999.
Every 2.2 has the face lift.

Facelifting also saw chrome rings being placed around headlamps, introduction of 5 new exterior colours, launch of steptronic auto gear box, a new centre console layout and more sound proofing for the soft top. :rtm:

Good luck with the purchase!

Marvellous,

Just realised. I test drive the car you bought before finding mine!

Nice car. Just a little out of my budget at the time.

I think we're quite close - do you recognise the scenery on the photo?
I spent most of my money on whisky, women and Z3's. The rest I just wasted.

There was a 2nd more minor facelift for 2000-on models which got clear indicator lenses all round.
