Wow! You guys miss nothing. Yes, Dad's Imola Touring featuring in wing mirror. Beautiful car too.Alex L wrote:Thats the shiniest Z3 I have ever seen.
Do you have a red 3 series parked behind?
Car really dazzles in sunlight. All the metallic particles in the paint really come alive and shimmer. In that regard these pics don't really do the car justice.
Thanks for all your kind comments. Really nice to get them. Thanks again.

OGII the outside of your car was shiney enough but the engine bay is just plain silly. I went to a BMWCC meet , spent an hour cleaning under the bonnet of mine and when I got there I did not even open it because of show off like you......note to self "must try harder"
Also a can someone help the hard of thinking ,there is a bit under the bonnet I can't identify. on your picture of the engine bay it is at the front to the left of the engine block near the radiator .It is a black plastic thing on a sprung mount

Its for emissions and AFAIK basically just pumps air into the exhaust to lower "emissions". The one on mine used to sound like a vacuum cleaner for 1minute on cold starts and ended up disconnecting it as it makes no difference to the running of the engine.muppet wrote: Also a can someone help the hard of thinking ,there is a bit under the bonnet I can't identify. on your picture of the engine bay it is at the front to the left of the engine block near the radiator .It is a black plastic thing on a sprung mount

There are some chips, Erha on the front of the car. The camera lens is just forgiving.

It's not Meguiars. These pix were taken ages ago, so might have been after a treatment of Auto Glym and Extreme Turtle Wax.

Got quick snap of Z gills in fading sunlight the other night...
Just to show variation between darker pics earlier and when in sunlight. Gotta be one of - if not the most - metallic of all BMW paints.
Keep meaning to get more pics but never have camera with me. Will get some soon to show the metallic specs off more.

OGs are very rare it seems. I see lots of red and silvers here. They are all really nice in their own way, but it's nice to be different.flyingalexf68 wrote:Really is a teriffic colour. Don't see any that colour around here. They're all blue, black or silver. And my red one of course, which is one of a kind.
Colour of my car plus its condition really made me buy it, and not keep looking for a 2.8.

Speak of the devil. There's a 2.8 Oxford Green Z3 for sale in Ireland. I'd say it would be too much for you though.

Miles are too high. Too far away to for me to travel--just back from Killarney last weekend. Could have took a peek then. Darn.

Black Thingy
The black thingy alonglside the radiator is not a 'vacuum pump' - if you ever paid attention to your physics class, you would realise that you cannot pump a vacuum, as it is an absence of air etc!
It is an air compressor, which provides air for the Secondary Air Injection system, used to reduce CO levels on cold starts, and at other times, by passing air via the valve at the top front of the cylinder head to each exhaust port, so increasng the oxygen content of the exhaust gas. It also helps the catalytic converters to operate when cold.
The valve is opened in periods of high inlet vacuum by a pipe connected to the inlet manifold.

A 'vacuum pump' is a pump used to create a vacuum. It pumps (sucks) the air out of a chamber, bag etc. It does exist.Mike Fishwick wrote:The black thingy alonglside the radiator is not a 'vacuum pump' - if you ever paid attention to your physics class, you would realise that you cannot pump a vacuum, as it is an absence of air etc!

That's a very nice picture! Kind of shows the difference between OG_II and Boston Grün. OG_II doesn't seem to have that blue-ish ingredient that BG has, but rather going closer to brown-ish or steelgray-ish. Very nice.Oxford_gruen_II wrote:Got quick snap of Z gills in fading sunlight the other night...
