Just good observations skills. Like seeing that unmarked police car we passed at over 80mph on that country road, unfortunately I didn't notice until I was beside it.

I must stress for those reading the post that the police car was parked.

I think they were asleep, if not then their obsevation skills aren't up to much.

Wow! You guys miss nothing. Yes, Dad's Imola Touring featuring in wing mirror. Beautiful car too.

Car really dazzles in sunlight. All the metallic particles in the paint really come alive and shimmer. In that regard these pics don't really do the car justice.

Thanks for all your kind comments. Really nice to get them. Thanks again. :D

OGII the outside of your car was shiney enough but the engine bay is just plain silly. I went to a BMWCC meet , spent an hour cleaning under the bonnet of mine and when I got there I did not even open it because of show off like you......note to self "must try harder"

Also a can someone help the hard of thinking ,there is a bit under the bonnet I can't identify. on your picture of the engine bay it is at the front to the left of the engine block near the radiator .It is a black plastic thing on a sprung mount

Its for emissions and AFAIK basically just pumps air into the exhaust to lower "emissions". The one on mine used to sound like a vacuum cleaner for 1minute on cold starts and ended up disconnecting it as it makes no difference to the running of the engine.

Yes, she is my everyday car. Just do my best to keep her clean. Been tough this last while as we all know.

There are indeed some stone chips, Mick, afraid to say. Unavoidable.

What polish and wax are you using? I am tempted with some proper carnuba wax that you have to apply by hand (literally)

Love the colour, very very deep. My estroil is too light a colour to give that wow factor.

keep up the good work!

It's not Meguiars. These pix were taken ages ago, so might have been after a treatment of Auto Glym and Extreme Turtle Wax.

I am pretty impressed by the extreme turtle wax, leaves a white powder on the car but that soon blows off.

Got quick snap of Z gills in fading sunlight the other night...

Image

Just to show variation between darker pics earlier and when in sunlight. Gotta be one of - if not the most - metallic of all BMW paints.

Keep meaning to get more pics but never have camera with me. Will get some soon to show the metallic specs off more.

OGs are very rare it seems. I see lots of red and silvers here. They are all really nice in their own way, but it's nice to be different.

Colour of my car plus its condition really made me buy it, and not keep looking for a 2.8.

Black Thingy

Post by Guest »

The black thingy alonglside the radiator is not a 'vacuum pump' - if you ever paid attention to your physics class, you would realise that you cannot pump a vacuum, as it is an absence of air etc!

It is an air compressor, which provides air for the Secondary Air Injection system, used to reduce CO levels on cold starts, and at other times, by passing air via the valve at the top front of the cylinder head to each exhaust port, so increasng the oxygen content of the exhaust gas. It also helps the catalytic converters to operate when cold.

The valve is opened in periods of high inlet vacuum by a pipe connected to the inlet manifold.

A 'vacuum pump' is a pump used to create a vacuum. It pumps (sucks) the air out of a chamber, bag etc. It does exist.

That's a very nice picture! Kind of shows the difference between OG_II and Boston Grün. OG_II doesn't seem to have that blue-ish ingredient that BG has, but rather going closer to brown-ish or steelgray-ish. Very nice.

...I wonder if I'm ever going to have time for that photoshoot of mine... :/
