That´s easy - one in the front - one in the back - the 3rd is for a coffeetable

that will be a proper W8 - and not the crappy ones VW makes :D

We want pics!!!

V8. I took mine for a first drive yesterday :D The sound is fantastic! The wheels spin if you look at the accelerator pedal!

There is a slight price difference for your options though. You can get a good S50 for a grand. My new V8 install is pushing £15k and I'm not finished yet , oh and about 500 hours work.

No no no no no , to tall, expensive to tune and unless you dry sump it wont fit. Plus finding a manual gearbox is a nightmare

its just not a go-er

Is it the green coupe that blew is engine at a race track ?

Your options really depend on how much you want to spend, as implied above by Deano (who did all of the work himself), you can budget anything from a few grand for an S50 to £20k ish for a new V8.

Personally I would fit a nice S50 and uprate the suspension etc.... (but I am in no way mechanically minded and it would cost a fortune for me to pay someone to fit a V8 :D )

I think that figure is a bit steep :?

New crate engines are pretty reasonable price wise, and there are loads of second hand small block engine available.

What about something like a big cc diesel for a bit of a change? Decent fuel economy and plenty of torque from something like a 335/535d motor? Not sure of the mechanical implications but it cant be that big a headache if youre thinking about a V8 :D

Decided due to costs and my limited time/engineering skills to stick with the S50 engine. First full strip down checking the diff mounts etc. Repaint White and new engine.
Can you boys keep your eyes and ears open for a decent engine no hurry or if anyone is planning a engine conversion and wants to sell there engine a deal could be done

Audi 2.7 v6 Bi Turbo convertion out of an s6, mix things up a bit!!!!!! Give it a little remap and your looking at 380bhp + ,and its not an expensive engine to buy. And another thing you wont have to fabricate exhaust manifolds, and you can have a switchable map for different boost, and its german!!!!!!!!

Why dont you look into fitting a S54 engine? It will fit as the S50, and you have a better engine for not much more effort. The electrics are different but you can often see a complete powerpack for sale with engine and harness, electrics etc.

S50B30 from the normal M3 is a 3 litre single vanos engine producing 250hp or 280hp can't remember which!!! whereas the Evo engine (S50B32) is the 3.2litre dual vanos with 321hp

The b30 does not commonly suffer from vanos woes that I know of and is happier to accept forced induction (incase you were interested ;))

The Evo engine made it to the z3m..

Deano I heard putting an s54 in is not that simple due to the throttlebywire / drivebycable differences?

It would be easy if he could get a complete S54 take-out from a scrap E46 M3 - engine, ecu, ews, loom and pedal. 343hp too, so more than the S54 Z3m.

I read somewhere that the extra BHP from the E46 M3 is down to the optimally tuned exhaust and the higher rev limit, compared to the ZM's "you get what fits" exhaust.

Probably wrong, though.

Nope pretty sure thats right, raising the rev limit and remapping the Z brings it pretty close. I've also heard you can't quite match an m3's HP due to less efficient airflow to the airbox. The engine itself is no different to the 343hp 2001-2002 E46 M3's

You wont make a donor car any quicker than a factory S54 Z3M (once its mapped)

To prove this theory i'd love to get to an RR day with a stock s54 Z, a tuned z54 Z (exhaust/map/rev limit raise), a stock E46 M3 and a modded M3 (exhaust/map). It would be very interesting to see the differences
