S50 mpg

Post by Z3cade »

With the last few tanks I've done the old brim the tank, use it then work out mpg when next brimmed..
And I got..

Spirited driving 19mpg :(

Steady under 3k rpm driving 28mpg!! :D

Was well chuffed with the later..

Just wondered what other S50/s54 owners have achieved? As im thinking of driving in Europe in the near future and would like an idea of what can be achieved in mpg

My best over a whole tank is 27mpg on motorway runs. My worst is probably 19mpg over a whole tank on a Spokey cruise ;-) That is in an s54 .

The best I ever got out of my S50 was 25, although I have never been on a long run and taken it steady for a whole tank. Worst was 17 on a cruise. I managed just 13 when the V8 just went in

This is my 3rd M Roadster and whatever driving style I can never get over 20mpg.
Previous owner of current car said he achieved an average of 25.
Must be me !! To be honest Sheffield is probably one of the hilliest cities in the U/K -well that's my excuse.

I have to agree.

Best mpg in the M is sub 15mpg, worst is >25mpg.

It's like setting fire to fivers - yeeeha - :drive :thumb:

If I want to drive on the cheap I use the Smart :D

Thanks guys like said I want to drive across the boarder soon and just need to know rougth mpg on a run to work out fuel costs.. My trip is looking to be around 2250miles... Anyone done this in a M and know fuel bills?

From my calcs I'm looking at around £600 fuel?

I do agree the 28mpg is a boring drive.. But top down with the sun in the alps would be worth it 8-)

I was considering a trip to Garda and back last year and was planning for £600 in fuel. Quite a big hit but worth it :)

I did 3400miles around Europe in 2010. I budgetted on only doing 2500, but it is easy to get side-tracked :D .

I would budget on 25mpg, @ £1.50/litre and add 25% extra miles. That way you should have a decent contingency for the fun things :) .

My Foreign Driving Top Tips (for what they are worth)

Don't use toll roads unless time is tight. The only toll I paid was to cross the Millau bridge (£5.21).

Plan on what country to buy your fuel. I drove through Luxembourg with a full tank :bawl: . You could easily save the price of a meal out if you get it right.

Find the best credit card for using abroad (I use the Post Office credit card).

I don't change the way I live - I just do it as inexpensively as I can :D .

With that kind of mileage in europe you can bet a lot of it will be steady cruising so avg should be higher than normal if you average that with some town driving and winding passes.

At 70mph an ///M should return about 32mpg. Best I got is 36mpg over 270miles doing 60!! Normal average is usually around mid 20s.
