Cracked rear screen

Post by hugo »

Oh dear Got excited like you do cos the sun came out today & flung the roof back & forgot that it was zero degrees & snap.......should have known better I've had the z for 2 years! So is this a main dealer part or is there a better & cheaper place to get my rear screen - I hear they're a fiddle to fit - any help & advice appreciated

Thanks!

Another reason to not put the hood down in winter sun! 1) its still too cold and 2) you risk splitting your rear screen!!

As for you Hugo, if your rear screen is a zip out one, you could get it from elsewhere other than dealer, check on the web, there's a few that will come out & replace it for you. One or two have been mentioned on this forum before.

if it was me I would get the stealer to fit it.

At least if the slightest thing went wrong with it , I'd be getting them to sort it under guarantee .

I wasn't aware it could crack if put down in cold weather!! Any advice on how to avoid this happening?

Sit in the car with the heater on until the screen is warm :?:

I would go for the genuine part. If you decide to fit it yourself and want a second pair of hands let me know.

I was discussing this with someone the other day, a friend has just claimed on his insurance for the cracked rear window (plastic but not on a zed), £50 as part of the glass replacement option most of us have.. and didn't effect his premium..

I took my hardtop off today. It was 9am and f%%kin freezin. So, before i put the roof up, i got the hair dryer on it so i didnt risk cracking it. Normally you would just put your blowers on for a few minutes before dropping the roof.

Remember not only to warm your rear screen before you fold it, but also your BMW blanket or DIY cloth to stop maximum window flex!
