Very interesting,
I was one of those that thought waxing and polishing were the same thing until sometime last year.
Designed or not designed, that is the question.

Yep... me too. I guess we've used the one to mean the other... waxes probably came first, and one would "wax" the car and then polish (verb) it to a shine... now we apply polish (noun) as though we were applying wax... language has hidden the diference in meanings and substances.

Personally I think they are over complicating this whole detailing issue, it's become a huge money making business. Years ago you would give the car a good wash, apply a good polish, the easiest one to use, so as not to have a stiff arm in the Morning, shine the tires with some black shoe polish and you were good to go :)

Nothing has changed... we still want the easiest on / off product. But we want it to make the car look like the ones they have photoshopped in the adverts... :D
