Show us your Wheels!

Post by audiovideodisco »

I know you lot love posting pics of your cars so here's an ideal opportunity! :D

I'm after some new wheels for the Zed and need some ideas. I have the original 'pepper pot' style which I like as they are well retro man, but they just seem quite small.

So what have you got peeps?

Thanks in advance.

5 spokes are the way forwards, and I love the ones above ^ ^ ^ (even though they look a bummer to keep clean!)

BMW Style 78, 7.5x17 fronts, 8.8x17 rears. A great looking alloy and do occasionally come up on e-bay,

Image

AC Schnitzer Type 3 single piece 8.8x18 with 7mm spacers front and rear. My fave alloy for the Zed, costly at £470 per alloy but after a year the pleasure seeing them on the Zed has been worth the cost

Image

I guess depends on your budget, however I would avoid new cheap aftermarket copies and go for a good set of BMW/BBS/ACS rims and get them refurbed if not going for new.

Yes it is, if you brake hard it saves your suitcase going through the rear window

Not this old chestnut again. :!:
The rack is the right way round, otherwise its a pain in the backside to fit the BMW suitcase on it.

Another thing to bear in mind, depending how fastidious a car cleaner you are, the multispoke/mesh type styles are a PIA to keep looking good, whereas ACS type design are supa easy and quick to keep clean.

If looking at deep dish types be careful at what the outer rims are made of as the cheaper chrome types can look tired after a salty winter.

The DTMs are Satin finish but shine when in the sun
They are also polished stainless inserts pressed into the wheels, try to keep away from the diamond cut types as if you get kerbing almost impossible to rectify. As for cleaning i dont find them a problem, wash with sponge, push sponge inbetween spokes shammy dry and hey presto, i do this every weekend and they dont seem to take me anylonger washing and shammying the car from start to finish. I take them off once every 3 months and give them a good detailed clean including AG Resin polish and Mequires canuba wax.

My Zed came with these. Really love the look but the front wheel arches are torn to shreds inside due to the oversized wheels. I plan to get them repaired along with the new front bumper replacement i desperately need but not if the new ones are going to become trashed almost immediately. what should i do to avoid this?

18" Z4M wheels on the wrong Zed...

If you don't need to hide rusty discs and calipers and need something OEM that's easy to clean because you use your Zed,go for staggered 17" Style 18,for the classic look.

I have a set of these type 89 wheels for sale if anyone is interested. I can do a proper for sale add tomorrow.

They are in good nick, only 1 kerbed slightly from memory. Bought as a winter set and currently have winter tyres on them

Anyone interested. This is an old photo of them, pre winter tyres and a few trips out in the snow.

Unfortunately although the genuine article needed a complete refurb and had the wrong offset too.
