Fuel pump M specific?

Post by Sailorbaz »

Good morning folks,

During my ongoing project, which I will update soon, we drained the fuel tank and found a very sticky residue at the bottom of it once removed the fuel pump. On testing the pump we've found it's seized solid so I'm asking about replacements.

Is the fuel pump specific to the 3.2? I removed a pump from a 2.8 and found the connections were different. A new one is over £200 from BMW, a cost I would like to avoid ideally.

Any advice appreciated.

Your question was about if the MZ3 pump is specific. I looked in Realoem.com and it seems like that is the case. The thing you can do is to go inte Realoem.com, look for your part, copy the part number, go back and paste it in the search box, and you will see all models of BMWs that uses that part. In this case the part number 16142228037 only turned up among MZ3 roadsters and Coupés. I looked for the pump in an -98, S50B32 spec car.

I have a Walbro 255 just taken out of my Z3M. You can have if for £25 + postage. It fits ok in place of the standard pump and is more powerful. I have swapped it for a bigger pump since my V8 needs for fuel flow than it can provide.
